Rumah Charis is a non-profit Christian based organization which was founded in 1988 by Reverend Teo How Ken as a home to serve the old and the aged (Home For The Aged). Since our inception, our ministries have expanded to include the children and the youth (Home For The Children). For more than 25 years, Rumah Charis has offered social services that provide spiritual guidance, shelter, education and healthy community activities. Rumah Charis was officially registered as a social welfare home with the Registrar Society of Malaysia (ROS) in Year 1993.
Old Folks Home provides shelter, support and medical care to destitute old folks. Through the establishment of a seniors’ home, the destitute and homeless can have a place they can call home and where they are able to enjoy a better quality of life. Objectives: To provide shelter for the destitute elderly.To provide spiritual guidance and counseling services.To provide medical care for aging seniors in the home.To make arrangements to reunite seniors with family and relatives.To make arrangements for the funeral service of the seniors of the home.
Children Home provides care for orphans and single parent children. Our home and activities aim to create a suitable environment to enable children to grow. We help to provide spiritual direction, education, and counselling for the children.
Objectives:
To provide a suitable environment for orphans and unprivileged, neglected, single parent children.
To provide spiritual direction.
Help them to continue their education.
Provide counseling and encouragement for those who are emotionally hurt.
To reconcile the children with their parents.
To cultivate good values in the children so that they will be good citizens and leader for the nation.
V.S.O.P Club stands for Very Strong Old People’s Club. This is another community project by Rumah Charis. The aim of the club is to provide an avenue where senior citizens from all walks of life can gather and spend some time in games, interaction, learning new skills amidst a healthy and conducive environment. The concept of the club revolves around the 5 E’s : Exists to affirm the senior citizens’ status and dignity through independent participation in activities. Enable the senior citizens to have a stable lifestyle through proper use of their time.Encourage the public to care and love the senior citizens through organized interactive social activities.Enlarge the potential abilities of the senior citizens to be useful citizens through learning new skills. Equip the senior citizens’ club to be a place for relaxation and a learning center with professional services.All these provide opportunity for the senior citizens to use their time in a healthy and interactive atmosphere where they can meet friends and make new friends in the process, enhance their self image and confidence, sharing experiences and knowledge, and have opportunity to hear and be heard as they share their favourite topics in group discussions.
